Stories anyone?
Gana was born to the powerful king Abhijeet and his wife after a great penance. The King who lacked for little else had been childless for very long and the suggestion of Rishi Vaishyampayane was rewarded by Gana's birth. The young prince later came to be know as Ganaraja. A bright and gifted child, his only flaw seemed to be his aggressive streak. Once invited to Sage Kapil's ashram Gana was thunderstruck by the unique qualities of the famed Chintamani Ratna. The Ratna had the powers to produce anything the owner desired. Wanting the Ratna for himself Gana took it away by force when Sage Kapil refused to part with it. Kapil Muni's counselor the Goddess Durga advised him to seek the help of Lord Ganesh in retrieving it. Responding to the Sage Kapil's pleas Lord Ganesh battled with Gana under the Kadamba tree and recovered the Ratna for the sage. By this time Kapilmuni seeing that the ratna in a new light - one of the cause of trouble - did not want it and offered it to Lord Ganesha. The Ratna was tied around Lord Ganesha's neck and he came to be known as Chintamani Vinayak. Since the finale of the tale transpired under a Kadamba tree, Theyoor also came to be known as Kadambanagar.
